Phillips Auction House

Sadly, we are reaching the final days of our trip, but our itinerary is still jam packed with art to see and people to meet. With Tuesday's events we have finally seen the full life cycle of a piece of art. We have had the privilege of seeing art as a work in progress in the artist's studio. We've viewed works of art in a gallery. And we have even seen art on display in a collector's home. Lastly, we have seen art up for auction in Phillips Auction House.
We got to visit Phillips at an exciting time as many of the pieces we saw were for the upcoming Contemporary Art Auction this Friday and Saturday. Head of day sale contemporary art, Amanda Stoffel was our tour guide of Phillips and so generous with her time and knowledge. I know for many of us it was our first time in an art auction house and our many questions and inquiries about the ins and outs of an auction house were answered.
We even got to see works of art by artists we have heard extensively about on this trip but have not had the chance to see in person yet including the silver paintings of James Kassay as well as Jean-Michel Basquiat's work.
Seeing the work of these famous artist's in person just days before they go up for auction to join new collections around the world feels like chance of a lifetime.
