Museum of Natural History

Today we all went to the Natural History Museum where we met Lou Sorkin and Lee Herman. Lee showed us all kinds of beetles, from the small to the very large. None of the beetles that Lee showed us were alive; they were the preserved exoskeletons of the beetles. The smallest beetle he showed us was smaller than the head of a pin and the largest was about the size of a baseball.  Lee also showed us his drawing of beetles he does. Lee looks through the microscope at tiny beetles and draws what he sees; his drawings go into reference books as well as some of the catalogs for the museum.
After Lee showed us preserved beetles Lou Sorkin showed us very lively assortment of bugs. He showed us tarantulas and black widows. He also showed us two different kinds of scorpions; did you know that scorpions are florescent when ultraviolet light is shined on them? I didn't either until today. Lou also showed us two types of cockroaches.
After we said our goodbyes and thank yous too Lou and Lee we we’re allowed to go to any part of the museum that we wanted to. I decided to go and visit the dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. The best animal of all, or at least in my opinion, are woolly mammoths! I spend most of our remaining time with the mammoths and other prehistoric animals. It rekindled in me my love of history. It was a great day at the Natural History Museum.
